First Day

Started out my morning right with a yummy smoothie. Put in spinach, bananas, & frozen mixed berries. Added flax meal & bee pollen too. It was really yummy & didn’t last very long.

Had to head to the doctor’s office for a follow up appointment then grabbed lunch before heading to work. I had a big salad with spinach, mushrooms, broccoli, carrots, snow peas with an avocado dressing. I added two raw flax crackers on the side for some crunch. Very good & very filling, but I’m craving chocolate. Not going to give in though.

Brought a nectarine & some Rainer cherries to work for a snack. Hopefully that’ll curb the chocolate craving. We shall see. They were yummy & I made it passed the chocolate craving. Yay!

I’ve noticed I haven’t been hungry much this afternoon, so I’ve concluded that I tend to eat out of boredom a lot or when I’m stressed. I’m proud of myself for recognizing it.

Tonight we had leftover minestrone soup. Yum! I’m very proud of myself for being able to be raw all day. Stay tuned!

Doin’ it RAW!

For the last year or so I’ve been researching the whole raw food thing.  It has consumed much of my free reading time and I have to admit, I’m more than curious.  I’m ready to do it.  Fortunately for Daniel, many hours have been spent studying the best way to get started.  Can’t say I know exactly the best way for us yet, but I’m super lucky that Daniel is very supportive and willing to go raw with me.

So tomorrow we are going to start on our journey down the raw path and we’re going to go a  bit slower than jumping in head first.  I planned out the first three days and bought the produce needed.  We already bought a Vita-Mix several months ago, but yesterday I ordered a Breville juicer and an Excalibur dehydrator.  No excuses now, right?

We have planned to eat as raw as we can during the day and then one or two evenings this week, but the rest of the evenings we’ll eat up what cooked meals we have frozen or leftover.  After we manage a couple of full raw days, we’ll keep adding them in until we’re as raw as possible.  I think the key for us will be pre-planning and preparing our meals as much ahead of time as possible.  With that in mind, two days worth of smoothies are already made up and stored in the fridge in mason jars.  We got a handful of fruits for snacks and my lunch salad is packed and ready too.  Speaking of fruit, any ideas for how to prepare raw black figs?  They are so yummy as they are, but I want to try something special with them maybe for dessert.

I have to say it:  I cannot wait until my Excalibur gets here!!!  I’ve been wanting one for a very long time.  I’ve got tons of raw books and am really anxious to start trying new recipes.  I love cooking and have always enjoyed coming up with new meals, so the challenge of going raw and making meals that keep us satisfied and content is exciting.  I’m really looking forward to your feedback, tips, and advice!  Thanks for keeping me on track.
